UBC Day Three: Future Musings.

As I mentioned in the first post (if you missed it!) I’m participating in The Ultimate Blog Challenge. Welcome to Day Three! Our prompt was to write about our future and where we want to take our blog/website, and in my case, shop. I felt this was a little boring, and wanted to put a spin on it so I asked my friends and family for ideas. My grandma came up with a good one! So grab a cuppa, cozy up, and read on!

I work at a local breakfast place and bake shop where I do waitressing and prep work in the kitchen. I had every intention of writing this post as soon as I got home, but once I did, I got hit with the zzz’s. The house cat (Nova) pressured me into a nap… You’ve obviously got to listen to a cat when it comes to naps, they’re the masters of rest and relaxation. How could you not? Here she is below.

The Future of Whimsy Brooke

While I don’t necessarily know what’s in the future for my business, I would hope it to be a successful one! I know there will be lessons to be learnt the hard way, extremely challenging times, seasons where I’ll want to give up, etc. But, I’ve got God on my side, so even through all this I’ll count it all joy. I’m also a chronic optimist, and enjoy putting a positive spin on things. Like Pollyanna and her “glad game” – life is hard – but that’s what makes it beautiful. It’s not worth it to be miserable. Maybe my business will outgrow itself and I’ll have to expand and find headquarters. But, maybe it won’t. Either way I’ll pivot and make things work.

Dreams, Dreams, Dreams!

It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own brick and mortar store.

From a young age I was quite the little entrepreneur – I would do Kool Aid stands with my dad. I remember drawing out a layout and planning a business idea with my childhood best friend. It’d be a bookstore, cafe and art studio all mixed into one. Imagine grabbing a coffee (or tea!) buying or bringing your own book, browsing local art and possibly creating some yourself at one of our workshops. So fun!

In my early teens, I started a Baby Sitters Club – we even got into the local news for it! Then in my early thirties I started my first business but I wasn’t in a good mental state, so I had to close it.

Childhood dreams are the absolute best, and sometimes they come true…

Owning a Business + What Comes With It!

As I honed my entrepreneurial skills… I found I loved people and sharing my passions with them. I discovered something was missing in the sticker and stationery market and so, Whimsy Brooke was born. But first, I had to prepare – when I got into planners (mainly Happy Planner) I started to PR for some Canadian sticker shops. I sort of got some insight of what it takes to own a small business. But, I didn’t dive in fully until a close friend encouraged me to officially start my business. Once I got it up and running I realized how much work and effort it takes to build and keep things running. But I believe it’s oh so worth it… the customers make it worthwhile, seriously – each and every order, every kind word and review, etc…

I’ve been asked a few times at markets where my actual store location is. This is an over the top compliment as I’ve only been in business for a little over a year now – I started in March of 2025. Being able to curate and sell things that make people smile would make life all the brighter (for everyone involved!) so it would be a win-win.

So – is it still one of my dreams? Yes, I believe so… but we’ll see what the future holds.

Maybe one day there will be an actual Whimsy Brooke storefront. I do know this will take a whole lot of work and in the current economy I don’t know how realistic it is – but, hey – I’m not much of a realist after all.
