Featured FF Inspiration – Angela Brown!

That amazing woman up there, dear readers, is Angela Brown – I met her through my last Featured FF – JCB Writes, which is her sister! Let’s rewind to when I first met Janet – I had just moved to Sandwich Town and was in desperate need of community. She took me under her wings and we became fast friends. Unbeknownst to me, she had a sister who was interested in a few of the same things I was. Writing, reading, music, theatre, etc… She desperately needed help with technology – and in comes lil ‘ole me!! Janet arranged for us to meet at the library on Tuesdays and thus began my friendship with Angela.

This is written in her memory as she is no longer with us.

What is this all about? Every so often, I’m going to feature someone in my life who is an inspiration to me – whether they’re a friend or family member.  The “FF” stands for Featured Friend/Family – (if you haven’t already guessed.) Anyways, grab a cuppa and enjoy!

We began our meetings and developed a friendship. When we got tired of the library we took some field trips to Ojibway Park and Jackson Park. Angela wanted to start a YouTube channel and having had experience with mine, I set her up with one. We started her filming journey during the winter. I remember going to Ojibway Park after a fresh snowfall, my goodness was it ever beautiful. We also filmed at Jackson Park – unfortunately I no longer have the videos, but I’ll always have them in my memory. One funny memory I have is when we saw Menopause The Musical – that was a fun evening out! I love plays and musicals and it turned out, so did she!

I also started a blog for her called My Plant Based Life. She wrote articles pertaining to the whole food plant-based lifestyle and her experience living with cancer and other chronic diseases. On her about me page she described herself as a cultural explorer who loves reading, writing, history, music, art, gardening, camping and traveling. And boy, did she travel!! I edited multiple posts for her, and they were all interesting – she had lots to say.

About Angela;  Im my eyes, she was a fiesty, passionate, adventurous woman. She was very kind, considerate, and generous! She actually gave me the new laptop she bought for herself – I was shocked. I started an internship around the same time so it was very much needed. Everytime I write a blog post or use it I think of her! It was also my birthday month so it meant even more. She supported my business ventures, and encouraged me in every way she could – by giving me supplies, kind words and advice, coming to my markets, brainstorming sessions and so much more!

Her Work; 

While I never got around to asking her what she did for work, I know she was a hard worker and gave it her all. I guess we were too busy playing with technology and/or creating to chat about work. Haha. Over the time I spent with her, she really encouraged me that it’s never too late to go for my dreams. After all – she was learning new things and accomplishing her goals while working with me every Tuesday. She had so much ambition and such a zeal for self-improvement. She also had such a sense of joy and positive mindset throughout her cancer diagnosis (at least since we first met!) Never complaining about her ailments or pain. Her determination and unwillingness to quit inspired me.

Her Style; 

She often wore flowy, ecceletic, casual, and comfortable clothing. Her t-shirts were always inspirational or featuring activism. It suited her so well.

Fun Fact; She loved anything to do with History!! I remember she’d attend our History Talks at the library when she was able, and I always enjoyed what she had to contribute!
